Why do most shaker bottles smell?

Most Shaker bottles are made of BPA plastics which are more prone to retaining the smells and odours and especially when they are not cleaned on a regular basis. Supplements get stuck in corners, on mixing balls and mesh grids causing a build up of bacteria.
